چکیده

The systolic time intervals of the left ventricle in 30 patients with ischemic heart disease but without heart failure were compared with those of 30 normal individuals before and after inhalation of amyl nitrite by using polygraphic recordings. In the normal subjects, following amyl nitrite, the ejection-time index was significantly prolonged, and the pre-ejection period and its index were significantly reduced, while the ejection time was not significantly shortened. The ischemic heart disease group, however, exhibited no significant changes in the ejection-time index, pre-ejection period, or its index, whereas the ejection time was significantly shortened. These differences were not related to heart rate or diastolic blood pressure level but may be explained by a postulated lack of increase in stroke volume or in the contractility of the ischemic myocardium, or both, at the maximal effect of amyl nitrite. The responses of the left ventricular systolic intervals to amyl nitrite may prove useful as a clinical test of latent ventricular functional impairment in subjects with ischemic heart disease.

Paradoxical electrocardiographic effects of amyl nitrite in coronary artery disease.

i had angina with normal coronary arteries. This group was compared with i5 patients who had angiographically proven coronary artery disease and positive treadmill tests but negative amyl nitrite tests: the group with positive amyl nitrite tests responded to drug inhalation with a significantly greater heart rate increase (47% vs. 34%, P< o.oI), and a significantly greater fall in systolic bloo...

Correlation of heart rate during norepinephrine infusion with pulse pressure following amyl nitrite inhalation.

Conway and Smith have suggested that a decrease in the pulse pressure following inhalation of amyl nitrite might be associated with loss of aortic elasticity. Studies in this laboratory have suggested that a decreased bradycrotic response during infusion of norepinephrine imight also be associated with loss of aortic elasticity. It was hoped that further support might be given to such a hypothe...

Use of Doppler echocardiography and amyl nitrite inhalation to characterize left ventricular outflow obstruction in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The presence of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO) of either a resting or dynamic nature may have important therapeutic and prognostic implications in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Doppler echocardiograms combined with amyl nitrite (Amyl) inhalation were performed in 333 consecutive patients referred for suspected HCM to diagnose and categorize the nature and ...

The relation between body mass index and prevalence of ischemic heart disease in type 2 diabetic patients

Background: The transition from communicable to non-communicable diseases has occurred over many years in all countries of the world, even in developing countries. Diabetes and its ischemic heart complication are among the most important second groupe diseases. In recent years, discussions about the role of obesity and weight gain have risen again as a risk factor for both diseases. Our objecti...

The Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...
